Triple H himself revealed on Wednesday night that the NXT Championship must be vacated, following Tommaso Ciampa’s recent, unexpected neck surgery that will put him out of action for an undisclosed amount of time.

The Game announced that Johnny Gargano would compete in a Two Out of Three Falls match at NXT Takeover: New York on Friday, April 5th against the winner of a Fatal 5-Way match, and that the winner would become the brand new NXT Champion.

At the same taping event, Adam Cole of the Undisputed Era won the Fatal 5-Way match, which also included Ricochet, Aleister Black, Matt Riddle and Velveteen Dream. It is now official – Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole will collide at NXT Takeover: New York in a Two Out of Three Falls match to crown the new NXT Champion.
