The old TNA Genesis pay-per-view returned to television this Thursday night, this time in the form of a two-hour special edition of Impact Wrestling. All four of the current Impact championships were on the line, including a special title match straight from Japan and the collision between Moose and Bobby Lashley.
In the opening contest of the night, “Reborn” Matt Sydal was able to defeat Ethan Carter III to become the new Impact Grand Champion. After weeks and months of EC3 cheating and using the Grand title’s unique ruleset to his advance, tonight’s championship match was competed under normal wrestling rules with no judges or rounds in the interest of fairness to both competitors.
As noted in our spoiler-filled coverage, Sydal is being pushed as a top star with the promotion beginning with this title win as he was featured in a major way throughout this month’s television tapings in Orlando. “Genesis” will be the final content aired from last November’s post-Bound for Glory tapings, with the new Don Callis regime officially taking over next Thursday night.
