According to TMZ.com, Triple H missed last night’s WWE Smackdown Live tapings in Birmingham, Alabama, as he was having dinner with former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey.
The news of Triple H missing a big WWE TV taping to dine with Rousey has fueled speculation that WWE and the MMA star are one step closer to a deal to bring Rousey into the company.
A source noted to TMZ that it’s unusual for Triple H to miss a TV event, as he’s usually on hand for everything, so it’s not likely Triple H’s dinner with Rousey was simply the two of them socializing.
At last word, Triple H publicly denied a report issued by USA Today claiming Rousey’s WWE signing was “imminent”, as The Game claimed Rousey signing with the company was “news to me”. A deal between Rousey and WWE has been expected for quite some time now, as Rousey has been training down at the WWE Performance Center, and creative ideas have been discussed for her at WrestleMania 34.
There has also been speculation regarding a surprise appearance by Rousey in the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match, with Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio adding the following:
“I don’t know she’s in the Royal Rumble”, said Meltzer. “I do know that some of the competitors that are in [the match] are under the impression that she’s in. I do know she’s been training a lot. The original idea [for WrestleMania 34]was The Four Horsewomen [of MMA]vs The Four Horsewomen [of WWE], and that would be [Rousey’s] debut. And the Royal Rumble would not be the case, so we’ll see. It’s certainly a rumor going around, that’s for sure.”
