WATCH: New Japan Cup Tournament Day 5 Highlights

New Japan Pro Wrestling has posted a YouTube video package of highlights from night five of the New Japan Cup Tournament.

The tournament began on March 8 and will wrap up on March 24. The winner of the tournament will go on to challenge Jay White for the IWGP Championship at the G1 Supercard on April 6 in Madison Square Garden. Hiroshi Tanahashi or Kazuchika Okada are perhaps the favorites to win, but fans can’t forget about Kota Ibushi and Will Ospreay.

Ibushi recently signed a new contract with NJPW, which means that the company can finally move forward with him. The star was not previously under contract with New Japan so now that he is, the time may be right for him to emerge as the main event star that many fans believe he is.

But Ospreay is truly coming into his own and has impressed fans every step of the way. His recent non-title match against White was a definite statement on his part, as it seems that The Aerial Assassin is ready to make the jump from Junior Heavyweight to the Heavyweight division.

New Japan will certainly want the best of the best in the main event of the show on April 6. It will be the biggest night of the year for NJPW in this country, as the event is a co-promoted venture with Ring of Honor and both company’s rosters will be featured. The G1 Supercard takes place the night before WrestleMania 35.
