Fans might be a little preoccupied losing their minds over Becky Lynch at the moment, and rightfully so, but you can’t deny that Charlotte Flair has had one hell of a year.

She came into 2018 as the champion, defended her title proudly at Wrestlemania, and defeated the iconic streak of the “Empress of Tomorrow”, Asuka — all before the month of May.

I loved every second of this match. From the grandiose entrances to the classic, back-and-forth action between the two perceived best women’s wrestlers in WWE at the time, all the way up to the twist ending that I still firmly stand behind to this day as being the best move they possibly could have made.

I heard people describe this, at the time, as the greatest women’s wrestle match they had ever seen. And if they had only seen women’s matches from WWE over the years I think you could make that case, with a few notable outliers. I don’t think it’s quite as good as some of the best STARDOM matches from the last few years, or on par with the All Japan Women’s days in the 90s, but I say none of that in an attempt to devalue this wonderful, stellar performance between two future Hall of Famers.
