As noted, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is set to have his next title defense at this year’s WWE SummerSlam event on August 19th at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
As of this writing, Lesnar is not scheduled to compete at WWE Money in the Bank on June 17th, or at Extreme Rules next month, and Sports Illustrated recently reported the expectation is that Lesnar will be dropping the title at SummerSlam, ending what will be a historic title reign in WWE, surpassing the current title reign record holder, CM Punk.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the currently planned main event for WWE SummerSlam is another rematch between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
Despite recent rumors that Seth Rollins might be a frontrunner to face The Beast in August, as things stand now WWE is keeping with its original plan to have The Beast face-off, one more time, against The Big Dog.
“As of a few days ago, it was not 100 percent confirmed, but was the working idea that Lesnar returns for Summerslam and Reigns as of right now is the opponent,” noted Dave Meltzer.

In an interesting piece of trivia, WrestleVotes noted that if Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns does indeed headline WWE SummerSlam this year, it will be only the second time in WWE history that the same match main evented both WrestleMania and SummerSlam in the same year. The last time it happened was back in 2008 when The Undertaker vs Edge headlined both WrestleMania and SummerSlam.
IF Lesnar vs Reigns headlines SummerSlam, it will be the 2nd time in history the same match main evented both WrestleMania & SummerSlam in the same calendar year.
The other matchup: The Undertaker vs Edge in 2008. Their SummerSlam match was inside Hell in a Cell.
