As noted, this week’s WWE Raw garnered the lowest amount of viewers in the history of Monday Night Raw, and some fans have been quick to blame Roman Reigns for the big drop in viewership heading into WWE Extreme Rules this weekend.
However, according to Alfred Konuwa of Forbes.com, fans might want to call-off their Roman Reigns attack dogs, as there is likely a completely different reason why this week’s Raw numbers were so low.
According to Konuwa, this week’s WWE Raw faced very stiff competition in the form of news coverage of President Donald Trump’s announcement of the new Supreme Court Justice nominee, or SCOTUS for short. Not only was the announcement of Brett Kavanaugh being named as the new Supreme Court Justice the number one trending topic for the night, but news coverage of the announcement dominated the night, with ABC’s coverage alone netting a whopping 5.42 million viewers.
The report points out that the September 26th, 2016 edition of Raw, which was the previously least-watched episode of the show, was up against the first Presidential debate between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump.
