WWE Announces the Return of the ‘King of the Ring’ Tournament


While details are scarce at this point, WWE has officially announced that the King of the Ring tournament will return next week, August 19 on Monday Night Raw.

The very first King of the Ring tournament took place in 1985 and the concept was turned into its own series of self-contained PPVs in 1993 that ran for a decade. Traditionally there are 16 competitors and the entire competition takes place on one single night, although that hasn’t actually been the case since 2002 as the infrequent modern incarnations of the tournament played out on TV, usually over several weeks, with fewer participants.
