Several WWE PPV Events Dropped After Big Announcement, Why Dean Ambrose’s Real Name Is Not Used On ‘Total Divas’

As noted, WWE confirmed today, with the release of the updated 2018 PPV calendar, that all PPV events following WrestleMania 34 will be dual branded shows.

Additionally, the PPV calendar reveals WWE has dropped the Payback, Battleground, No Mercy and Great Balls of Fire events for this year.

Payback, Great Balls of Fire and No Mercy, all of which took place in 2017, have been scrapped altogether. The WWE Battleground PPV has been replaced by Extreme Rules, which will now be taking place in July as opposed to September. Additionally, WWE Hell in a Cell will now take place on September 16th as opposed to September 30th.

Why Dean Ambrose’s Real Name Is Not Used On ‘Total Divas’

A fan on Twitter recently pointed out to Renee Young that she does not call her husband, Dean Ambrose, by his real name on “Total Divas”. Other wives on the show, such as Naomi and Brie Bella, refer to their husbands by their real names, however Young refers to Ambrose as ‘Dean’, instead of his real name, Jon.

According to Young, it was not her decision to call Ambrose by his WWE name, and it appears to have been a call made by show producers. Ambrose is not the only WWE star who has gone by his ring name on the show, as current cast members Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax are referred to by their ring names, and former cast member Paige was also referred to by her WWE name.
