NXT Takeover: Phoenix Results
January 26, 2019
Phoenix, AZ @ Talking Stick Resort Arena

Report by Tom Clark for ProWrestling.com

We are live! The pre-show kicks off with a vignette of the storyline between Johnny Gargano and NXT North American champion Ricochet. The NXT awards for 2018 are up next.

NXT BREAKOUT STAR OF THE YEAR: RICOCHET

Ricochet accepted the award and said that winning the NXT North American Championship was the highlight of his 2018. He promises to maintain his momentum by beating Gargano tonight.

MATCH OF THE YEAR: JOHNNY GARGANO VS ANDRADE CIEN ALMAS

Gargano accepted and said that he and match of the year naturally just go together. Zelina Vega interrupted and reminded Johnny that Andrade won their match. She asked what Gargano had done lately and said that 2019 is the year of Tranquilo. Gargano said tonight he will have another match of the year and this one will end the right way.

MALE COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR : TOMMASO CIAMPA

This one was short and sweet. Ciampa showed up, stared at the award and walked away. Apparently the champ wants nothing do with this.

FEMALE COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR: KAIRI SANE

Sane came out and graciously accepted the award. She thanked all the fans and everyone that voted for her.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR: THE UNDISPUTED ERA

There was no official presentation here, as Bobby Fish simply came out with the award and began jawing with Pat McAfee at the commentary table on stage. Fish predicted a victory as McAfee put himself over. An entertaining spot!

OVERALL COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR: KAIRI SANE

Sane once again gets an award and she’s speechless. Sane has tears in her eyes and says she’s honored to be here. She can’t thank the fans enough. Kairi is indeed emotional and said she will be the NXT Women’s champion again in 2019. A genuinely great and emotional moment.

The main show is next!
