John Cena has officially joined the cast of Fast & Furious 9. The announcement was made on Friday, June 7, ending months of fan speculation. That speculation began in April of 2019, when star Vin Diesel teased that Cena would indeed appear in the film.
No details have been released yet concerning John’s role in the movie. Longtime Fast & Furious fans know that fellow WWE Superstar The Rock has been a mainstay of the franchise since 2011’s Fast Five. But The People’s Champ will reportedly not be appearing alongside Cena in part nine.
However, The Rock will star in a Fast & Furious spinoff, scheduled for an August 2 release. Hobbs & Shaw will see Rocky team with fellow franchise star Jason Statham in the title roles.
The announcement of Cena’s addition to Fast & Furious 9 surely comes as no surprise to WWE fans, who have witnessed John’s growth in Hollywood from the beginning of his movie career. Cena continues to build his resume in Tinseltown, most recently starring in 2018’s Transformers movie, Bumblebee.
